Barnet is acting on dementia
With a growing older population, and over 4,300 people living with dementia, Barnet is acting on dementia.
This week (13 – 19 May 2024) is #DementiaActionWeek, and we’re encouraging everyone to take steps to prevent dementia, learn about dementia and support ourselves or others to live well with dementia.
A refreshed Dementia Friendly Action Plan
The borough’s refreshed Dementia Friendly Action Plan 2024 – 2026 builds upon the work already achieved to work towards a dementia friendly community. Created via engagement with people affected by dementia, carers and family members, representatives from local organizations and the NHS, the plan outlines key actions to support people to live well with dementia in Barnet.
The action plan strives to assist neighbourhoods and communities to be as welcoming and supportive of people living with dementia as possible.
Look out for the yellow ‘Dementia Friendly Barnet’ sticker!
Developed via engagement with people affected by dementia, carers and family members, and community partners, the Dementia Friendly sticker will be rolled out via Barnet Council’s Dementia Friendly Partnership to help raise awareness of support and services for people living with dementia and to help residents identify venues, businesses and initiatives that are supporting the borough’s drive to be as dementia friendly as possible.
1 in 3 of people born in the UK today could develop dementia, meaning we are all likely to be affected whether personally or via a loved one. So get involved, learn about dementia and prevention, and raise awareness of dementia among your networks to help Barnet become even more Dementia Friendly!
