Go Bean! Ben's Pink Hummus

Number of images: 2

Ben is a Burnt Oak resident and shares his Pink Hummus recipe!

Hummus is chickpeas at it's core but I don't agree with chickpeas. An Israeli cousin told me that many hummus recipes (there hummus is a big deal, as I found out in a  pilgrimage to Sederot to visit a Humusia or Hummus dispensary) you can switch out chickpeas for soy beans.

Here I was struggling with my iron levels after some health problems caused by internal bleeding and I was told by my doctor to try foods rich in iron. this doesn't have to be red meat.  I found red beans in a can costs around 33 p.  The red water that comes out I put on the lawn to give it a bit of extra iron.

Recipe:

  • 3 cloves garlic (lazy garlic can be used from a jar)
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 2 cans red beans drained and rinsed
  • Some olive oil (about half a cup)
  • Some tahini (about half a small tub)
  • Teaspoon of sea salt / Zaatar (thyme) spice mix
  1. Add diced garlic to blender and blend
  2. Add tahini and blend with a little water
  3. Squeeze the lemons in
  4. Add beans and ingredients
  5. Blend
  6. Refrigerate and serve topped with Zaatar, extra virgin olive oil, and a few spare beans.
