Dementia Action Week: helping everyone in Barnet live well
This Dementia Action Week (18–24 May), we’re encouraging residents, businesses and communities to come together to make Barnet more dementia friendly.
Dementia affects thousands of people across the borough, and everyone’s experience is different. With the right understanding and support, people can continue to live well, stay active and feel connected to their communities.
Spotting the early signs is important: memory loss, confusion, difficulty finding words or changes in mood can all be symptoms. If you’re worried about yourself or someone else, speaking to a GP is an important first step towards getting the right support.
Small actions can make a big difference. Taking time to listen, communicating clearly and showing patience can help people living with dementia feel respected and understood, and there is a wide range of local support available for residents and carers, from advice services to community groups and activities.
This week, take a moment to learn more, start a conversation, and help build a borough where everyone feels supported to live well with dementia. To learn more about dementia, visit https://yourhealthbarnet.org/dementia-support
