Supporting your health and wellbeing in 2026

Somebody holding someone else's hand in their hands.

Why not make 2026 the year you prioritise your health and wellbeing?

Small changes can make a big difference, and Barnet Council is here to support you every step of the way. Whether it’s quitting smoking or cutting back on alcohol, these changes can help you feel better, live longer and reduce your risk of serious health conditions.

Smoking remains one of the leading causes of preventable illness, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, lung cancer and respiratory problems. Similarly, drinking too much alcohol can lead to liver disease, high blood pressure and even certain cancers.

The good news is that you don’t have to stop smoking or reduce the amount of alcohol you’re drinking on your own - there’s plenty of support in your borough.

If you live, work or study in Barnet, you can access free and confidential support through the Barnet Stop Smoking Service. You’re three times more likely to quit successfully with expert help. Our trained advisors offer one-to-one sessions, behavioural support and guidance on nicotine replacement therapies and vaping products.

Reducing your alcohol intake can also improve sleep, boost energy and lower your risk of liver disease. Barnet residents can access Change Grow Live Barnet, a free service offering advice, counselling and structured treatment programmes.

This new year, give yourself the gift of better health. Whether it’s one less drink or one less cigarette, every step counts. Visit https://www.yourhealthbarnet.org/findyourfeelgood for more ideas and inspiration to help you feel good in 2026.
