Hundreds of people attended as Age UK Barnet held its annual Silver Sunday event at Middlesex University on Sunday (5 October 2025).

Now in its 13th year, Silver Sunday is a national day of events and activities to celebrate older people and, this year, a key focus was the importance of staying socially connected to prevent and tackle loneliness and isolation.

At the university’s campus in Hendon, special guests were Strictly Come Dancing’s Katya Jones and actor Carolyn Pickles while the day also saw a variety of performances, including North London Rock Choir, as well as opportunities to take part in Tai Chi and seated yoga. The event, held in partnership with Barnet Council, also featured health checks, talks and advice sessions.

Among those in attendance were the Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Danny Rich; Cllr Gill Sargeant, the council’s Ageing Well Champion; and David Pinto-Duschinsky, the MP for Hendon.

If you're interested in moving more, there is a great range of taster sessions and activities happening this October with Fit & Active Barnet. Whether you are new to physical activity, regularly participate or you are returning after some time away, we can help you on your journey to become more active and healthier. View the activities timetable and find out more!
