Men’s Health Week: let’s talk about it
This week is Men’s Health Week (15 to 21 June), for which this year’s theme is Men and Pharmacy — highlighting how easy it is to access health support.
As well as being available at your local pharmacy, there could also be services - which can support your health and wellbeing – easily accessible through your work.
Among the main aims of Men’s Health Week is to encourage men and boys to take positive steps towards improving their physical and mental wellbeing, including the importance of talking to someone, whether that be with family members, friends, work colleagues or health professionals.
Pharmacies can play a vital role as a valuable first step in supporting men’s health as, sadly, it is common for men to delay or not ask for help, ignore warning signs and feel that they must keep going rather than talk about their health.
Asking for advice, whether from a pharmacist, GP, or trusted support service, is not a weakness - it is simply a fundamental part of looking after yourself and living well.
From speaking to a pharmacist about symptoms or medication, to booking routine health checks, being more active, and talking openly about stress, anxiety, or low mood, small actions can make a big difference.
