Learn more about your risk of diabetes
This week is Diabetes Week (8 to 14 June 2026), which is an opportunity for Barnet residents to learn more about diabetes, check their health, and access support in their local community.
Diabetes can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and other long-term health conditions. But early support and simple lifestyle changes can make a significant difference.
There are three drop-in events across the borough, making it easy for residents to get advice and take simple steps to stay well. These are free to attend - booking is not required - and open to everyone, including people who may not usually access health services or who want support in a more informal way.
At each event, you can get free blood pressure and health checks; speak to trained professionals; learn how to prevent or manage diabetes; and meet local services and support organisations.
The events are being held at:
- Finchley Memorial Hospital, N12 - Tuesday 9 June, 10am to 2pm
- The Old Library, Grahame Park, NW9 - Wednesday 10 June, 10am to 1pm
- Manor Drive Methodist Church, N20 - Thursday 11 June, 10.30am to 2.30pm
Whether you want to understand your risk, make healthier lifestyle changes, support a family member, or manage an existing condition, these sessions offer practical advice and local support. Learn about healthy eating, physical activity and simple steps to reduce your risk of diabetes.
