Get with the programmes to improve children’s health!
A total of 240 early-years settings and schools in Barnet have registered with two Mayor of London-sponsored award programmes which aim to improve children’s health and wellbeing – and yours can too!
The Healthy Early Years London (HEYL) and Healthy Schools London (HSL) schemes recognise those education settings which achieve improvements in areas such as healthy eating, physical activity and mental health through bronze, silver and gold awards.
Of the 118 early-years settings in Barnet to have registered with the HEYL programme to date, 92 have achieved awards including 15 venues attaining gold.
In the HSL programme, 122 schools in the borough have registered so far, with 46 schools achieving the gold standard.
Both programmes take a whole‑setting approach to improve the health and wellbeing of children, while reducing health inequalities is also a priority, with the achievements celebrated every year at a special ceremony.
Free guidance is available for early-years settings and schools, from the Health Education Partnership, to support their progress through the HEYL and HSL award levels.
