The Grahame Park Community Garden
At the heart of Grahame Park Estate, a once-overlooked garden has blossomed into a vibrant food growing space, thanks to the joint efforts of its residents and Barnet based charity, GROW. This summer 2025, an exciting programme of food growing continues, with plenty of opportunities to get involved.
What’s happened so far?
In early 2024 residents helped shaped plans to turn an unused garden into a food growing space.
The garden then began to host weekly drop-in gardening sessions for residents of all ages from March-October, as well as Saracens High School students for a weekly after-school gardening club.
Some research has found that adults with a household member taking part in a community garden are 3.5 times more likely to eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day – the amount recommended by both the NHS and World Health Organisation.
Residents have embraced the garden as their own, taking part in a workshop to create the garden sign, and working to maintain the space, like Ali, who has been employed by GROW as their assistant gardener.
One garden member shared, “The garden has made me so much happier in my life. I’ve struggled a lot with stress and feeling down, but the garden is my antidote to all that.”
Interested in upcoming activities?
Drop-in volunteer sessions: Sessions have re-started at the community garden in front of the Old Library, every Friday from 2-3:30pm.
After School Club: The club is now up and running! It takes place every term-time Friday from 3:10–4:45pm
- Primary school-aged children should attend with a parent or carer.
- Secondary school-aged children are welcome to join unaccompanied, but they’ll need to sign up here: After School Club Registration Form
- The club is a space for children to explore gardening and growing, enjoy games, and take part in nature-based crafts.
