Centre's early years work impresses Deputy Mayor
The Deputy Mayor of London for Children and Families, Joanne McCartney, visited Newstead Children’s Centre yesterday (4 March 2026) to see the valuable work being done at the venue in Finchley.
Newstead Children’s Centre has achieved the gold award, for which its focus was oral health, in the Healthy Early Years London programme which is sponsored by the Mayor of London and is designed to improve children’s health, wellbeing, and their development up until the age of five years old.
Early years settings in Barnet are supported by the programme’s borough lead, Tania Barney, of Health Education Partnership, to achieve the award.
The Deputy Mayor was given a tour of the centre led by Andy Whiting, Early Years and Primary Service Manager, and centre staff.
She talked to members of staff and council officers, and among those joining her on the visit were Councillor Alison Moore, Barnet Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, and Janet Djomba, Director of Public Health for Barnet.
