Barnet welcomes Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England
England’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr Jeanelle de Gruchy, visited the Public Health team at Barnet Council earlier this week to hear all about their hugely important work in the borough.
For visits to The Stay Club in Colindale and nearby council offices on Tuesday (21 October), Dr Gruchy was joined by Vicky Hobart, Group Director of Public Health & Deputy Statutory Health Adviser for Greater London Authority (GLA).
The event provided the opportunity for many members of Barnet’s Public Health team, as well as some key partners, to showcase and raise awareness of their vital work in our communities, with presentations made on migrant health and suicide prevention, and also about initiatives such as the Barnet Resilient Schools programme and Dementia Friendly Barnet. Councillor Alison Moore, the council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, and Cath Shaw, the council’s chief executive, also attended.
A Q&A session was held, giving the Public Health team a valuable chance to find out more information on issues affecting themselves in their day-to-day roles but also on areas in public health which are having an impact both across London and nationally.
