Receiving a decision

Moving accommodation without a decision

 You may be moved to another hotel or another type of accommodation by the Home Office, while you are still awaiting a decision on your asylum application. You should register at a new GP and inform your last GP that you have moved. Your address on your ASPEN card and HC2 certificate should also be updated. 

Positive decision 

If your asylum application is successful, you will be entitled to the same free NHS healthcare you currently have. When you have new accommodation secured, you should contact your GP. If you are still in the same area as your contingency hotel, you simply need to tell them that your address has changed. This way, they can make sure you get all the information you need at your new address. 

If you have moved to a different area, tell your GP your new address and they can confirm if you can still be supported by them or if you should register at another surgery.

If you receive a negative decision

If you receive a negative decision then you may be able to appeal the decision. You should speak to your lawyer, caseworker or outreach worker for this. If you do appeal, as long as you reapply for Section 95 support, you will be entitled to the same healthcare provision you have been receiving until now. If you appeal following a negative decision, you may be moved to different accommodation. If your address changes please follow the steps outlined above. 

If you received a negative decision but are eligible for Section 4 support, you will have the same entitlement to healthcare as you did with Section 95 support. If you aren’t sure about what Section 4 is or if you’re eligible or not, please ask your lawyer, caseworker or outreach worker. 

If you find yourself with No Recourse to Public Funds, you will be able to access free primary care, which means GP, dentist, eye care and pharmacies. You also can access emergency care in Accident and Emergency (A&E) for free when necessary.
